I want to introduce you to Mike Iconis. He is one of our authors providing us with insight into managing a small business’s IT infrastructure. Here is his story, in his own words…
I have known and loved computers since my teenage years. While in business school at Georgia Tech, I kept up to date on new technologies, as it was still a hobby of mine. Upon graduating, I was lucky enough to snag a job in a rough market in Atlanta. I started out as help desk support for a group of small businesses in Midtown owned by the same man, in the same building. The businesses included a court reporting firm, a transcription services provider and a college for both of those industries. As the years went on and my knowledge expanded, I migrated over to working mostly with the transcription service, wordZXpressed, as they were investing more heavily in new technologies.
A year later, I was promoted to Vice President of Information Technology. Since then, I have been very fortunate to be involved in many projects that test my abilities but also allow me to work with other small business technology staff. I have seen how even the smallest device or “insignificant’ piece of software can greatly increase efficiencies and allow people to do their jobs more easily.
While I do not claim to be an expert in all areas of technology, I hope to bring you some real world expereince in several different areas of the IT world and how they have been used in our small business and in others. I look forward to feedback and suggestions from all of the readers as we move forward.
