You may have noticed that AtlantaSmall.Biz looks a little different lately. In fact, the entire look of the site has been upgraded. Not only has the template of the website been changed to reflect a more open feel but the logo has been completely redesigned. Owner of the site, Cathy Iconis, decided it was time for a change. “The site has always had wonderful content and great advice,” said Cathy, “but I just felt it was time for the website to grow with the businesses we serve.”
Designing and creating a new logo and look isn’t always easy or cheap, which can make the hunt especially difficult when you run a small business like Cathy. After doing some online research, she decided to use a website called 99designs.com to help with her search for a new logo. This website allows users to post design ‘contests’ for their design needs for a fee. Freelance designers then enter the contest by posting their customized original designs. The business owner then gets to pick a ‘winner’ for the contest. This is how the new logo for AtlantaSmall.Biz was chosen. Many talented designers entered the 99designs contest. With regard to the process, Cathy says she would definitely recommend 99designs to others in the same boat. “It was a great money saver for me, but it also helps support freelancers and small businesses, which is what we are all about. It’s a win-win situation.”
In the end, the logo with the peach theme and the Atlanta skyline won AtlantaSmall.Biz over. “We wanted a new look that represented Atlanta and our love for small businesses and I think we found a great marriage between the two in the new logo,” said Cathy. The template of the website was then adjusted to reflect the new logo. In addition to changing the look and feel of the site, a regular newsletter is being created to help keep those who love the content, but can’t always find the time to visit the blog, up to speed. Says Cathy, “We hope these changes will be to everyone’s liking and that it will help us in our efforts to reach out and help other small businesses.”
