MJN & Associates Interiors

For our first Atlanta Small Biz Owner Spotlight, we are taking a closer look at Michelle Nettles, owner of MJN & Associates Interiors.  Michelle has been running this fabulous Interior Design firm since August 2000.  She prides herself on helping clients that don’t have the time to commit to the design process, but want that warm and inviting space created by a professional with the clients opinions and needs in mind.

Michelle Nettles started her own business for the benefit of her clients.  According to Nettles, “Many firms, including retail design centers, allow you to choose only from their lines of merchandise to place in clients’ homes and offices.”  Nettles wanted to break that mold to provide better value and freedom to her designs.

On her own, “I can use whatever resource that best suits the design and the clients’ pocketbooks.”  So, clients of MJN & Associates Interiors get great design for a fraction of the cost they would pay to the retail design firms.

Like most of us, this successful small business owner struggles with time management.  Not only does Nettles knock out some great design work, but she also has to find time meeting with clients and vendors, marketing, research to stay on top of the trends, and overall project management.

We all know there are a lot of balls to juggle when you are a small business owner.  But, Nettles will advice any other Atlanta small business owner to “build the personal relationship first, before trying to sell anything.”  This has been one of her keys to success.

To help feed those personal relationships, Nettles offers a monthly newsletter, or ezine, to clients and leads.  It is one of her best business strategies that has won the gold medal.  Her newsletter not only allows her to keep in touch with her clients, but also lets her answer their design questions and show them some of her most recent work.

Some of the best advice one of her clients ever gave Nettles was “Communication is key!”  So, unless she is on her day off with her husband talking walks in the park or watching college sports, you’ll find Nettles with her computer and laser tape measure in hand.  To better facilitate that communication, she uses computer-aided design (CAD) programs that allow her to space plan, draw details, elevations and renderings.  This allows her to share her vision with clients and contractors for accuracy and efficiency.

For all of you out there looking to design that perfect space, Nettles suggests you choose the colors and things you love while opting for the timeless and avoiding the trendy.  If you’d like to find out more about Michelle Nettles or her company, MJN & Associates Interiors, make sure to contact her by one of the methods below.
