I want to introduce you to Evelyn Jackson. She is one of our authors providing us with insight into the personal and business health insurance industry. Here is her story, in her own words…
By the summer of 2008 I had been in the Human Resources industry for over a decade. I had made significant strides in my career and at that time was a Regional Human Resources Manager in the Real Estate/Property Management industry where I spent the last five years in. After ten successful years focusing on both benefits administration and recruitment in corporate America I decided to call it quits. Many people questioned why I would simply walk away without that other job lined up but I was not worried, I knew I was moving on to greater things.
Looking back I see why they would have worried. I was doing pretty well for myself doing something that I was simply real good at. Helping people land their ideal jobs was very rewarding for me and making sure that came benefit enrollment time employees really understood their health insurance options so that they made good selections always put a smile on my face. Unfortunately, it came a time that my smiles didn’t last for more than a day. I was unhappy, unfulfilled and wanted out!
I realized that my problem was the lack of work/life balance. I craved to spend more time with my husband and two small children but did not have a clue what I would do if I left. In my position overnight travel, long 12-13 hour days were not an option, but simply part of my job and I grew tired.
Then came the “AHA” moment. I took one good look in the mirror and had a very honest conversation with myself (don’t worry my reflection did not answer back). It was then when I realized that “it has always been about helping others” and it was time to step out of my comfort zone and become an Insurance Broker - And so I DID! Being a Health Insurance Broker might sound plain boring but it is what I do different that makes it refreshing. Having spent countless of hours across the table from many brokers in the past prepared me to make a seamless transition and I have not looked back ever since.
Today, I have a steady growing agency. I get to smile a whole lot more often and have the greatest pleasure of living AND working hard. My desire to help others make sense of an ever so complicated subject that is health insurance is stronger than ever. I truly feel that education is the key to maximizing your coverage and saving you money. My intention is always to educate, or make aware every person I can so that you can maximize all of the benefits available. These are exciting times!
